    1.0 General Description

1.1 Display Capabilities -- One unit shall be capable of displaying the LED "Hand", fiber optic "Man" legends and LED count down timer. 1.2 Visibility -- The legend shall be clearly legible, attracting attention under any lighting conditions from a distance of 200 feet anywhere within a 15 degree cone centered about the optical axis. 1.3 The signal shall consist of. a. A fiber optic and LED module. b. Protective back cover for the module. d. Light sources. e. Transformers.

    2.0 Functional Requirments

2.1 Fiber Optic Module -- Shall be made up of step-indexed glass fiber bundles arranged on a flat black panel. The glass fibers at the input and output ends shall be ground smooth and optically polished for maximum light transmission. 2.2 The timer display is made of High-intensity (AlInGaP) LED's and is seven (7) inches in height. The timer easily configures according to the application. Upon activation of a "Pedestrian Clear" signal, it is able to count down from a user defined setting (99 to 1) in one second intervals. Or the timer can monitor the "Pedestrian Clear" signal and begin count based on that duration. 2.2.1 Manual mode - Upon activation of a "DON'T WALK" (HAND) signal, it is able to count down from a user-defined setting (99 to 1) in one (1) second intervals. This setting is made using rear access thumb wheels. In Manual mode, the Timer will count down from the thumb wheel setting until terminated. 2.2.2 Auto Mode with offset - The Timer can be run in Auto Mode monitoring the "DON'T WALK" cycle and begin count based on that duration. Also it can use the thumb wheels to add the monitored cycle, the amount displayed on the thumb wheel. Hence, the count will be what is monitored plus what is set on the thumb wheel. 2.2.3 Pulse Mode - In Pulse Mode the Timer will count when the first "DON'T WALK" pulse goes low. When the next pulse occurs, the Timer blanks and decrements count. When the "DON'T WALK" pulse goes high or low for more than twice the pulse length, the timer will reset and begin count when the next "DON'T WALK" pulse goes low. 2.3 Back Cover for Module -- Protective back cover for the module will be provided to eliminate damage to fiber optics and LEDs during installation and routine maintenance. 2.4 Message Color --The unit shall display proper colored messages. Portland Orange for "HAND" and LED timer," White for "MAN". These colors shall be in conformance with ITE, specifications. (Lunar White color available upon request.) 2.5 Lamps -- One (1) 42-watt, 10.8-volt lamp with a rated life expectancy of 8,000 hours shall be used for "MAN" illumination. Lamps shall be mounted horizontaly to prevent moisture collection. 2.6 Transformers -- Transformers shall be used to reduce the incoming 120 volts AC to 10.8 volts AC and shall be rated at 48.5 volt-amps. Transformers shall be weatherproof and have a Class A insulation. A separate transformer shall be used for each lamp. 2.7 Timer -- Is made of Solid State Circuitry. 2.8 Operating Temperatures -- The unit shall be capable of continuous operation over a temperature range of -35 F to + 165 F (-31 C to + 75 C). 2.9 Blank Out -- The signal shall completely blank out when not energized. No phantom words or legend shall be seen under any ambient light conditions. 2.10 Lens -- A matte/clear .125" polycarbonate lens shall be used over the fiber optic module to prevent intrusion of foreign objects and to provide resistance to vandalism. 2.11 Hardware -- All screws, washers, nuts and bolts shall be stainless steel and all other components shall be corrosion-resistant. All components are readily accessible when doors open. 2.12 Wiring -- 120VAC - MAN, 120VAC - HAND, 120VAC - LOGIC, 120VAC - PED CLEAR, 120VAC Return, Case ground. A three wire version ("HAND", "MAN" and 120VAC return) is now available.

    3.0 Installation

3.1 Retrofit kits are easily installed in the field.
