1.0 General Description
1.1 Display Capabilities -- The unit shall be capable of displaying
alternate legends, consisting of either a green or yellow
directional arrow.
1.2 Models available:
1.21 Lensed -- Lensed unit displays the message anywhere within a 20
degree cone centered within the optic axis. 20 degree cone units
shall be supplied in two models depending upon intended use.
a. 10 degrees downward tilt -- Used for overhead mount.
b. Flat -- Used for pedestal mount.
1.22 Wide Angle -- Wide angle units display the message anywhere within
a 60 degree cone centered about the optic axis. Wide angle units
shall be mountable overhead or pedestal and shall be rotatable to
any desired direction at installation.
1.3 Visibility -- The legend shall be clearly legible from a distance of
one-quarter mile under any ambient lighting conditions anywhere
within a specified degree cone centered ahout the optic axis.
1.4 The signal shall consist of:
a. Fiber optic module with individual output points attached.
b. Color filters for desired legend colors.
c. Light sources.
d. Transformers.
2.0 Functional Requirements
2.1 Message Color -- The unit shall display an amber and green alternate
colored arrow. Any combination of colors available on request.
2.2 Lamps -- One lamp shall be used for each message. These lamps shall
operate at 10.8 volts, with an average life expectancy of 8,000
hours.
2.3 Legend Intensity -- Provisions shall be made in the construction of
the signal so that the indication displayed shall be approximately
the same intensity regardless of color displayed.
2.4 Lens -- Individual 5/8" glass lenses shall be fitted over the
end of each fiber optic bundle to provide the 20 degree total
viewing angle and increase intensity (lensed unit only).
2.5 Transformers -- The transformers shall be used to reduce the
incoming 120 volts AC to 10.8 volts AC. The transformer shall
have a weatherproof Class A insulation and shall be rated at 48.5
volt-amps.
2.6 Operating Temperatures -- The unit shall be capable of continuous
operation over a temperature range of -35 F to +165 F
(-37 C to +75 C).
2.7 Power Consumption -- The power consumption shall be 42 watts
per color.
2.8 Transformer Connection -- A separate transformer and lamp shall be
used for each color to allow connection with existing
controller wiring and conflict monitor.
2.9 Message Blank Out -- When unit is deactivated, no color shall be
visable, regardless of ambient lighting conditions.
3.0 Mechanical Construction
3.1 Module Mounting -- Complete signal shall be capable of being mounted
in any standard aluminum or polycarbonate 12" round signal case.
3.2 Kit Construction -- The unit shall be entirely contained between the
.125" polycarbonate front section and the .063" polycarbonate back
cover using the standard housing manufacturer's gasket.
3.3 Lamp Mounting -- Lamps shall be mounted horizontally.
3.4 Fiber Optics -- Each output point will be fitted with a standard
glass bundle. All output points and commons will be fully polished
to provide maximum light transmission.
3.5 Signal Color -- The face and output points shall be flat black to
minimize legibility when deactivated.
3.6 Electrical Connection. -- Field electrical connection shall be a
barrier-type terminal strip.
3.7 Hardware -- All hardware will be corrosion-resistant
stainless steel.
3.8 Maintenance -- No special tools will be required for
routine maintenance.
Warranty
All products will be warranted to be free of defects due to material and
workmanship for a period of two (2) years.
